Navagrah Shiva Mandir
Guwahati was known as Pragyajyotishpur or centre of Astrology in the past. Navagraha temple was a centre of Atstronomy over Chitranchal Hill, east of Guwahati in Udan Bazar area near Brahmaputra River. Enshrined in this temple are nine Shiva-lings, representing the nine Celestial bodies, each covered with a colored garment symbolic of each of the celestial bodies, with a Shivaligam in the centre symbolising the Sun. Rajeswar Singha in 1752 made orgininal temple which got demolished in 1897 earthquake. New temple and approach road has been constructed recently. It is a crowded temple for people coming for there planetary cleaning.
