Kailasanathar Temple is Kanchipuram’s oldest temple, built from 685-705AD by a Rajasimha ruler of the Pallava Dynasty. The temple was also known as Kachipettu Periya Thirukatrali (Stone Temple of Kachipettu).
The main shrine has a 16 sided Shivalinga in black granite stone.
